The process of ClearCorrect

ClearCorrect is a clear aligner tray process that slowly re-positions the teeth as patients progress through a series of plastic aligner trays. These trays are custom-made for individuals using digitized impressions of the teeth. These digitized impressions of your smile’s present condition and correction as designed by Dr. Lindahl are sent to the ClearCorrect laboratories where a series of trays are created. The number of trays in a patient’s series will depend on the severity of the misalignment. The more severe the misalignment is, the more trays a patient will have. *For more complete details, please scroll to read the More about ClearCorrect section below.

An important note for patients considering mail-order clear alignment solutions that don’t include a licensed dental professional in person, beware: moving teeth without a thorough examination of the overall health of your teeth and gums and continued monitoring by a licensed dental professional could result in a permanent loss of teeth. Talk about expensive and lifelong dental problems…

Clear Correct

ClearCorrect is a clear aligner system used to straighten teeth as an alternative to traditional braces. Similar to other clear aligner brands (like Invisalign) available to dentists or orthodontists certified to offer them to their patients, ClearCorrect straightens teeth using a series of clear, custom-made, removable aligners that gradually move teeth a little bit at a time, eventually correcting the teeth and smile to elicit a new, revitalized look.

ClearCorrect vs. Traditional Orthodontics

In cases where ClearCorrect is not suitable for certain misalignment cases or complex bite problems, traditional orthodontics can be used. However, traditional metal braces are attached to the teeth and adjusted periodically by your dentist, and they are not removed until your treatment is complete. Also, traditional braces might hinder your ability to perform routine oral hygiene tasks and might interfere with eating and speaking.

On the other hand, the aligners are custom fit to your teeth to provide an irritation-free treatment, with nearly no adjustment discomfort.

ClearCorrect vs. Invisalign

ClearCorrect and Invisalign both are a series of clear, custom-fit, removable aligners that slowly realign teeth into the desired position. Fabricated impressions then are used to create a 3-D model of the teeth. Both are possible solutions to correcting problems such as crowded or spaced teeth, overbites, underbites and crooked (turned) teeth. ClearCorrect aligners offer enhanced clarity (meaning they’re virtually invisible) and are minimally invasive. They’re also resistant to clouding from wear.

What You Should Know

Your records — including impressions, photographs and radiographs, along with a prescription for your custom-made aligners — are sent by Dr. Lindahl to the ClearCorrect laboratory, where an exact 3-D model of your teeth is created. Your treatment team then maps out a complete treatment plan showing the gradual realignment that will re-position your teeth from their current position to where Dr. Lindahl has redesigned where the best form and function of your smile will be.

The “treatment set-up,” a computerized representation of your teeth before and after treatment, is available for viewing after treatment planning. You receive your treatment set-up by email and respond with your approval or any adjustment requests. Using the most up-to-date digital mapping and molding technology, custom aligners then are created with computer precision.

How it Works

ClearCorrect treatment involves four phases of aligner therapy. Each phase requires a new set of aligners that are worn for a three-week period. The time between each phase allows for control and flexibility.

ClearCorrect aligners are worn all the time, except when eating and drinking, or while brushing and flossing. Designed with aesthetics in mind, the aligners are barely noticeable and won’t have an impact on your daily routine.

After wearing each aligner set, results will be noticeable as your teeth begin slowly adjusting and aligning to your desired smile. Periodic check-ups with your dentist are required so your progress can be evaluated and you can be given the next set of aligners. This sequence will continue until you have achieved your new smile.

Treatment time can vary from one to two years, depending upon your specific condition and degree of misalignment. There are three treatment options available:

  • The aligners are made through a combination of Dr. Lindahl‘s expertise and 3-D computer imaging technology.
  • You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
  • As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Lindahl has prescribed.
  • You’ll visit Dr. Lindahl about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
  • Total treatment time averages 9 – 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Who Can Benefit?

ClearCorrect currently is available to treat adults and teenagers. (Compare with Invisalign Teen.) Children who might not have all of their molars and senior citizens who present with more complicated dental cases also may be candidates for ClearCorrect, but should consult with their dentists to determine the treatment option that best suits their needs.

ClearCorrect can be used to treat the following orthodontic conditions:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Spacing between teeth
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crooked or turned (rotated) teeth

How does ClearCorrect improve one’s oral health and wellness?

With conventional braces, patients will have trouble keeping their smile clean. Brackets and wires can be incredibly difficult to brush and floss around, increasing the chances for dental problems such as periodontal disease and cavities. With ClearCorrect, patients can easily remove the trays, allowing them to care for their teeth and gums as they did before. There are no appliances to work around when brushing and flossing, improving the ability to keep the smile beautiful throughout the process! Most people report they are so much more comfortable than dealing with traditional orthodontic braces.

How often do patients wear the ClearCorrect aligner trays?

Patients often ask how often they need to wear their aligner trays each day to see results. Dr. Lindahl recommends wearing ClearCorrect trays for at least 20 hours a day. This means that patients can wear them both day and night, and only remove them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. This progression is gradual but provides amazing results that can be achieved and maintained for life. Dr. Lindahl encourages patients to comply with their treatment, so they can finally have the smile they’ve always dreamed of – without traditional orthodontics.

What should I expect during treatment?

Wearing clear aligners all day every day will take some getting used to, but we assure you it doesn’t take long. Your bite will feel off initially and you may experience a lisp at first, but within a matter of days, the aligners will feel natural.

Will the aligners hurt? How comfortable are the aligners?

Since the aligners will be new, they may feel uncomfortable in the beginning, but the more you wear them, the more quickly you become accustomed to them. Don’t be alarmed if they impede your speech, make you salivate, or cause dryness. These are all common side effects while you adjust, and they’ll go away within a few days. The aligners should not hurt, so if you find they are bothering you, please call us to discuss. We are proud that our ClearCorrrect provides the most comfortable aligners available today.

Are the aligners hard to keep clean? How do I clean them?

Cleaning is simple. Use a toothbrush and cool water like you do with your teeth. And make sure to keep up on your oral hygiene during treatment to prevent tooth decay, periodontal disease, decalcification (permanent markings on your teeth), and inflammation of your gums.

I’ve seen people with bumps on their aligners – what are they?

Those bumps are called engagers, and they’re actually affixed to teeth when there’s difficulty with tooth movement. Not everyone requires them, but they are quite effective in assisting with moving teeth that need some extra help.

How long will I be in treatment?

The length of each treatment ranges from a few months to a couple years, depending on the complexity of your case, your treatment goals, compliance, oral hygiene, and commitment.

What is the daily wear schedule?

You should always be wearing their aligners except for when you are eating or cleaning your teeth. A safe rule of thumb is 22 hours a day.

Do I have to wear the aligners forever? What will happen when I’m done with treatment?

No, after treatment, you’ll wear a retainer at night, preventing possible relapse in your treatment.

What are the clear aligners made of?

Our aligners are made of a specially formulated plastic. This carefully crafted and tested polyurethane resin ensures a unique durability that is resistant to stress, cracks, and stains.

I’m pregnant/nursing. Can I do clear aligner treatment?

ClearCorrect aligners are risk free and chemical free, so we are confident in recommending them. However, we encourage you to discuss your situation with Dr. Lindahl before starting treatment.
